Emergency Management

Downtown's First United Methodist Church, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Rev. Scott Alford, is the distribution center for free cleaning buckets for flood victims in the Memphis area.

The reusable 5-gallon buckets, donated by United Methodist Churches across the country, contain cleaning supplies such as gloves, scrub brushes, detergent, dust masks, insect repellent, trash bags, etc., to help those who have had flood damage to their home or business.

Over 2,500 cleaning buckets are housed in the First Church Mission Building next door to the church at 204 N. Second Street, Memphis, TN 38105 (at the corner Poplar Avenue and Second Street.)

Recipients will be required to have a FEMA registration number or current identification showing their address to be in a flooded area. One bucket per household or business.

Buckets will be available for pick up starting Thursday, June 2 through Saturday, June 11, 2011.

Hours for pick up:

• Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m
• All other days, including Sundays: 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

For more information, please call the First Church office at 901.527.8362 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday or contact Sandra Mathias, First Church Communications Director, at 901.581.5664, mathiassl@bellsouth.net.
